- A major milestone in showcasing low-carbon solutions—such as insect-based innovations—backed by transparent, scientifically consolidated data
- A category-wide recognition of the insect sector as a tangible decarbonization solution, and of Innovafeed’s industrial symbiosis model, which combines large-scale insect ingredient production with a low carbon footprint
Paris, April 25, 2025 – A milestone has just been reached in the recognition and promotion of tangible decarbonization solutions: the official launch of the Avoided Emissions Platform (AEP). This global initiative—led by recognized actors such as Quantis, Robeco, Mirova, Edmond de Rothschild AM, and I Care by BearingPoint, and supported by over 30 partners—establishes a transparent, rigorous, and harmonized methodology to measure avoided emissions (“scope 4”) across 65 sectors, ranging from energy and agriculture to industry, real estate, and food systems.
Innovafeed, a global leader in insect-based protein (AgTech recognized as B Corp™, Next 40 and Impact 40), is proud to be listed among the solution categories featured in this independent database, built upon robust Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data. This project illustrates how public initiatives can integrate the scientific data and operational expertise provided by specialized industrial players like Innovafeed to objectively assess the real impact of emerging solutions.
“Insects are a forward-looking, measurable, and high-impact solution for transforming our agri-food system. Through our circular model, we upcycle agricultural by-products into sustainable ingredients, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. The AEP represents a crucial milestone in providing the most up-to-date data on the real-world impact of our solutions.”
Clément Ray, CEO and Co-founder of Innovafeed
A Robust, Independent Scientific Foundation Built Through Collaboration
Innovafeed’s contribution to the AEP is the result of several years of in-depth work in partnership with Quantis, a leading environmental consultancy specialized in LCA.
“Environmental impact must be assessed using common, robust methodologies. The AEP embodies this collective ambition: by standardizing the measurement of avoided emissions, it strengthens the credibility of climate solutions—like Innovafeed’s—and helps channel financial flows toward the most virtuous companies.”
Pierre Collet, Global Footprint Lead at Quantis
A Key Milestone for the Insect Sector
The inclusion of the insect protein sector in a neutral, science-based reference platform has also been welcomed by its institutional representatives:
“This initiative marks a foundational step for the European insect protein industry. The AEP’s work provides scientific validation of the insect sector’s potential as a lever for emissions reduction in agriculture and food—a critical issue for the European Green Deal.”
Christophe Derrien, Secretary General of IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed)
This recognition is also aligned with IPIFF‘s broader policy agenda, which advocates for stronger integration of the insect sector within the EU’s sustainable finance frameworks.
“We support the EU’s efforts to identify and promote green sectors—such as insect farming—within official taxonomy systems. This would help unlock more public and private capital toward sustainable activities, green investments, and climate-aligned solutions.”

A Strong Signal for Impact-Driven Investment
Accurate measurement of companies’ climate contributions is becoming a vital tool to guide investment portfolios. By offering a transparent, science-based framework for quantifying avoided emissions, the AEP helps investors identify and support the most effective solutions in the fight against climate change. The inclusion of sectors like insect protein underscores the growing maturity of nature-based and circular economy models—and their relevance for tomorrow’s sustainable investment strategies. With this shared language for impact, the AEP reinforces investor confidence and accelerates the redirection of capital toward scalable, high-impact
About the “Avoided Emissions Platform”
The “Avoided Emissions Platform” is an interactive digital tool available under license. It allows users to model the avoided emission factors of 65 climate solutions. Its open and transparent methodology is overseen by an independent scientific committee.
Goal: To provide companies, investors, and public decision-makers with a harmonized framework to measure real contributions toward the transition to carbon neutrality..
About Innovafeed
Innovafeed is a global AgTech leader (B Corp™, Next 40, Impact 40, World’s GreenTech Company 2025) specialized in the production of insects (Hermetia illucens – Black Soldier Fly) for animal and plant nutrition.
Founded in 2016, Innovafeed develops cutting-edge technologies that replicate nature’s resource conversion processes at industrial scale. By recreating a circular, zero-waste food chain where insects play their natural ecosystem role, the company is helping build a more sustainable, resilient, and efficient agri-food system..
